Meet Dr. “Dixie” from Oklahoma
February 2, 2019I’m Dixie Yoder, usually known as Dr. Dixie; in full time ministry since 1990; in 1996, the tenth woman to be ordained in the Brethren in Christ church! I am founder and Executive Director of Infinite Grace Ministries: a Biblical Guidance counseling ministry based in Weatherford, OK. I also maintain an office in Oklahoma City.
The mission of this ministry is to provide healing and wholeness through God’s Infinite Grace.
I work with every emotional issue any counselor would encounter, but my approach is Biblical, rather than psychological. The amazing power of God’s Word heals as individuals and couples absorb a deeper understanding of what it means to be loved by God, and how that affects our life choices.
I developed an interest in pastoral/Biblical Guidance counseling because, as my dad often told me, I wear a sign that says, “Go ahead—tell me all about it!” I often find myself in the position of random strangers on a plane, in restaurants or stores pouring out sad stories of hurt and rejection. What an amazing experience to actually have answers for people from God’s Word, which never changes!
I spent 17 years managing a home-based furniture upholstery business so I could stay home and raise our two sons. When our youngest went to college, I went back to college and seminary, completing undergraduate, graduate and doctoral studies in Christian Counseling and Biblical Studies. When I graduated with my Doctor of Ministry, my then 7-year-old grandson looked at me and asked, “Do I call you Dr. Grandma?” I assured him “Grandma” would still be just fine!
I strongly encourage women who sense God drawing them into any ministry that builds the Kingdom to step out in faith and pursue the needed training! Age isn’t really an issue.
I strongly encourage women who sense God drawing them into any ministry that builds the Kingdom to step out in faith and pursue the needed training! Age isn’t really an issue—I received my D.Min. at age 51 and haven’t looked back! I just celebrated my 67th birthday and don’t yet have retirement on my “radar.” I’ve published four books and am writing a training manual to bring more Biblical Guidance counselors into Infinite Grace Ministries. The fields are white for harvest, and I am asking the Lord of the harvest to bring in reapers!
I rejoice over the thousands of lives that have been changed since God called me into this ministry almost 30 years ago. I would encourage all of us not to step out of ministry too early, failing to use our years of acquired wisdom as we reach out to the lost and hurting.
